  • What Should I Wear?
When heading to an osteopath appointment, it is highly recommended that you wear comfortable and loose-fitting clothing. This will make it easier for the osteopath to access any areas of your body that need treatment. Try to wear clothing that is easy to remove, as the osteopath may have to access certain covered areas during the session. Be sure to avoid wearing restrictive clothing, as this can hinder the effectiveness of your treatment.
  • Do I Need A Referal From My Doctor?
You do not need a referral to book an appointment with an osteopath. However, referrals from other healthcare practitioners for any related injury or condition are welcomed, and can be beneficial in understanding your needs better.
  • What Is An Osteopath?
Osteopaths are qualified professionals with the expertise to heal and repair injuries! By completing four years of intensive university education, they become master technicians capable of diagnosing and treating almost any physical ailment. Whether you’ve sprained your ankle or need help adjusting that pain in your neck—an osteopath has got you covered!
  • What Should I Bring?
When attending an osteopath appointment, it is helpful to bring any relevant scans or tests (e.g. X-ray or MRI) that can assist in treating your injury/condition. Other than that, you just need to come prepared with yourself and the recommended clothing!
  • What Is The Difference Between An Osteopathy, Physiotherapy, And Chiropractic Care?
Osteopathy, physiotherapy and chiropractic are all forms of physical medicine that focus on the management of musculoskeletal pain, injury or disability as well as general health. An Osteopath works to restore mobility and reduce pain by manipulating tissue, manipulation and stretching techniques to stimulate the body’s own healing abilities as well as the prescription of exercises. Physiotherapy is often centered around rehabilitative exercises, hands-on treatment such as massage therapy, posture correction and electrotherapy for symptom relief. Chiropractic care focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of conditions related to the spine, joints and muscles. It primarily uses spinal manipulation (or adjustments) to treat ailments like back pain, neck pain, headaches and other related injuries or conditions. Ikigai Osteopathy takes a holistic approach towards health; it looks at how an individual's lifestyle factors affect their condition in order to provide tailored treatments that benefit the patient in the long term. With osteopathic treatments, practitioners use a range of manual therapies such as mobilization/manipulation of joints, soft tissues or cranial bones to repair and restore functioning throughout the body so that individuals can continue living with comfort and pain-free satisfaction.
  • How Does An Osteopath Treat?
Treatment by an osteopath typically includes a combination of hands-on techniques. You will receive an accurate diagnosis and explanation of what it means for your condition, as well as education on the best ways to heal and prevent re-injury. Additionally, you may also be prescribed exercises and rehabilitation advice to help with your recovery.
